The other day, I had reason to call in at a workshop that specializes in Mercedes Benz cars, and the repair thereof. Years of MB training and expertise, no job too big or too small, none too difficult nor too simple. We fix everything. Good. That had been the initial telephone introduction.
Picture the scenario then at the time of my personal call. Chinese gentleman, with his wife, seeking to find out, or how to fix, a 126 - 280SE fitted with the self levelling back suspension which, he said, keeps on dropping all the time, especially overnight. It can be quite a familiar story, can't it ? What can be done about it ?, said Chinese gentleman.
The answer from the mechanic ? No look, there is nothing to worry about. They do that all the time - it's quite normal. Now, I could adjust it, and put more pressure into the system to hold it up, but it is then likely that the whole system will become overpressurized and is likely to blow up. So, it's best to just leave it. Chinese gentleman ? Okay then, I'll take your advice and leave it as it is........I kept right out of it, other than to suggest to the mechanic (quietly), why don't you just fit a new valve ? Well, no need for that, we just repair them all the time. Regards Styria
