WTB: crappy W116 for under a grand - Melb

My neighbour's kid, inspired by my two W116s, is after one to work on and register and drive when he gets his P plates. He's a 17 year old apprentice fitter and turner and ideally the car needs to be:

a 280S or 280SE but will consider V8s
start and run and drive
not too much rust
not too much body damage

The kid's fairly mechanical, from what I can tell.

Anyone got anything sitting in the garage or back yard rusting in peace?

Hi B13,

The guy I got my 6.9 from has one that might suit. He says:

We do have a 1976(?) W116 SE (2.8 litre 6 cylinder) the same colour blue as the 6.9 and in fair condition. Motor sounds very good and gear box changes, body has minor rust, interior is OK in MBTEX it has MB Bundt style mags. This car has some history being originally owned by Indonesian Embassy then Victor CHANG (Heart Surgeon par excellence) both documented. Would need some work and purchased from ebay for $1400:00 from a guy in Echuca (Vic) of course we were told the usual story about the car over the phone. I guess that we would like to get back what we paid for it but I wouldn't think that it was worth that much and we would like about $850:00.

Let me know if interested. He's near Warragul, about 100km out of MEL. For reference, the 6.9's official colour is 906 grey blue metallic - looks closer to grey to me.

Come to think of it, I'm tempted myself
