Woohoo! Where'd you find that.... Germany, or RSA?

Actually I've been privvy to this thing for some time... I've dubbed it "Povo"

Whats great about it is what it lacks:

Sunroof
Power windows
fat door trims
SLS
automatic transmission
power antenna
LH side mirror
alloys
headlight wipers
fuel injection
leather
metallic paint
all that and less.... you won't find any of this in this one... worlds shortest Daten Produktion Card..

The 450SEL will be the main "tool of the trade" for the forseeable future, and the knowledge gained from that and my 450SE club car will be put to good use in this one.

What he said...

It's the total povo pack!! :D

Drives pretty nice, few 'creases' to iron out - but not much at all.

She'll be getting her first test on a round trip to melbs this weekend...straight up.

Cam2. :)

Ahem, they're not factory pedal pads:eek::D:D:D:D

So what's it like, how's the gear changes?

Hahah... this car was built for the track! (sorta) It came with those pedal pads! Bargain! :D

Gear changes are smooth as, but VERY long. I've tried a couple times to wind out first and snap change 2nd.. And the second time the clutch was definately all the way to the floor - but it still crunched. Ian suggested the synchros might not be able to keep up with my light speed gear changes.
More investigation to come.
Either way if i'm a little slower on the change it goes fine and continues to power on.

So, is it a six? ;)
Four Speed? ;)
Se or SEL? (looks like an SE)

It's a 6 indeed my friend.. 4 speed yes.. 2nd, 3rd & 4th have extremely long legs!

280S.

1st job, get the carby flowing / breathing right and grease / check all the throttle linkages. (also put a bigger return spring on the carby).

It's quite fun driving a manual 116! :D

Maybe treat the Melbs run as an economy run.

By my calculations, and other anecdotal evidence from 280 owners here and at the other w116 place you should be able to make the Cbr -> Mel 650km run on 1 tank at a steady 110km/h. The 450 would run out about 100km short.

Since the car is essentially untested you wouldn't want to go over 120km/h for extended periods. Carry some oel and petrol.

Don't forget my stickers dude!

If you can remove the passenger seat from Ol'silver and bring that with you we can see how to mount the race seat to MB seat rails.

It will definately be an economy run! As I don't know the car 100% yet.

Oel and Petrol a definite!

Stickers are already in the car.. ;)

If I bring that seat, then i won't be able to fit another seat (the bucket) and 4 chrome plated wheels (for michel) in the car to come back..
I also won't be able to pimp it up with mates on the Friday / Sat night around town. :D

Ideally i'd like to get a tacho in there for the run though...just for a bit of investigation..

That car has air-con so can't be a total povo pack.

I reckon a manual 280 with no emission gear would be a wonderful fun drive.

I drove a manual 123 280E in the early 80's and it is the perfect motor for a manual.

Agreed, the combination actually works well! I don't think i could handle only 6 cylinders if it was a 3 speed auto.

Mav's, will try get round to ripping out the seat rails. Don't think i'll have time though. Only got about 28hrs till i leave canberra...and got a SHYTEload of stuff to get done. :(

DAMN........

Did you insure the car?

I only had the car 3 days... and it's destined for the track.

No insurance..

Not even NRMA, cost me $300 for a 15km towe to the holding yard in aulbury. Would've been $2k back to canberra, and $900 to sheparton.

$300 for 15km's was the best option.

If it was an auto, the car would've been signed over to the wreckers.
It's manual, this car has to be saved........... so i can punish it on the track! :D
