Has anyone ever removed this 'dry sump' tank from their car ? Believe me, it's one of those jobs that can be quiote cumbersome and physically demanding. The tools required, primarily, are Open End spanners ranging in size from 36 millimeters down to 27.....

and it5 is necessary to remove the front valance in order to gain access to the oil hoses that run from the tank to the small enginesump containing the oil pump.

It will take you all your strength to undo those large fittings. I almost felt like giving up. Invariably, and almost essential, one needs to use two spanners - one to undo the fittings, and with the other to support the fittings on the tank. Regards Styria

Yes. It is quite possibly one of the most tedious tasks I've performed on the 6.9. I see you have recent fittings and hoses. When they haven't been off for 30 years, it can almost be mission impossible.

Nice work.

Thanks Tim. It is reassuring to know that someone else agrees with my assessment of the job. Regarding the age, I am just not sure at what stage, if any, those hoses had been removed/replaced. As you would be aware, they do have a habit of seeping/leaking primarily next to the engine cavity sump rather than under the oil tank itself. I am still puzzled, and need to establish, why the drain plug under the tank that's been removed just kept on turning in the one spot. Regards Styria

Hmm, maybe the fittings came from a different OEM. The ones on my car were ARGUS and the "compression collar devices" (I can't think of the correct term) were yellow anodised aluminium instead of plated steel as yours are.

Very interesting.

I hope the plug hasn't been stripped.

I still have two sets of those oil lubrication hoses on hand. One set, in particular, consisting of three hoses, are almost like new. I have had them up for sale at one stage - forgotten the asking price at the time but no interest. Those hoses, if available from Daimler, will set you back at least a thousand dollars. Who wants to buy mine for $380.00 - I guess no one, until one actually needs them. Regards Styria
