As the rally is no longer news, an event or anouncement I will start a new thread here and and bore you all silly with where we went, what we saw how we got there.

I have posted before about the fun we had almost missing the train to Adelaide on the first day so I'll gloss over it, never mind, we made it.

Thats my car at the front:)

The Indian Pacific travels overnight and stops at Broken Hill to refuel, a town tour was available for those that didn't stay to long at the bar the night before, so Karen took this photo:D

Thats my car at the front:)

At Broken Hill we met up with 3 cars driving from Brisbane and one from Melbourne, only one of the lazy buggers got out of bed to met the train, it was 6:00am, and I wasn't one of them.

In the background is the 6.3 featured in Unique Cars recently, those who have read the article will know it is a very potent car, and a show winner.

The train arrived in Adelaide, in the rain, just before 4:00pm Sunday, sorry no pics, by this time all I wanted was a cold beer, so I had 4...

Monday morning we met outside the Hotel for a trip to Hahndorf, SA

On the way we met up with some local Mercedes-Benz club members

One of the members kindly allowed us to view his private workshop and collection, the 1952 300S coupe is a very rare car, less than 200 made, pics to come

Pictures are wonderful, good to see a mixture of cars, I was thinking it was going to be just 6.9's, but good to see the 6.3's and 600's along for the trip.
As one would always be fearful of something expensive breaking out in the middle of no where.

Did anyone break down at all on the trip?

Hi Des, my mail is that heaps of them broke down - in fact, most of them are still moored somewhere along one of the train stations.

Anyway, none of them seem to mind as they have been assembled in the Ottanooga Pub uninterrupted ever since.

The only absentee is abl 567 who was flown back to Sydney so that he could post the pics on Topklasse - now, that's what I call dedication - thanks a lot Anthony. As soon as you're done, I suggest you go back to help them out and take some more pics. Thanks a million for bringing us up to date. Regards Styria :D:D

Styria, do you really think I'd let anyone drag me out of a pub full of leadfoot 6.3 drivers:) Thank god for laptop computers and mobile broadband and pour me another pint:D

Des, only one car broke down, 3 times, the owner was able to get going again every time. I'll let each tell their own story if they choose to.

The 300s I mentioned, as I remember it was built on a 300 sedan chassis with a gullwing motor

A Bare 300 Chassis, the suspension has coil springs and torsion bars, the torsion bars can loaded up to raise or lower the chassis.

More to come, many many more

I like the white chassis.... It's different

Surely it wasn't factory?

Hi Des, I knew YOU were serious - 'twas just an attempt on my part to introduce a bit of humour - plus, I know Anthony and I thought that he would respond in kind - as he has so aptly done. Well, I think he's still at the pub ! :D

I must check on the M100 site if this rallye made their pages ! Regards Styria

Sorry they are all the photos I have of that car, it was in a small workshop so not a lot of scope the take pics.

The car had undergone a complete restoration, the bodywork was to correct past repairs which resulted in the car being 2 inches wider that it should have been front and rear, the rear guards were reworked in the same manner. Many parts for the car were missing so were made from scratch, bumpers and overriders, body panels as you can see, even the door handles were sandcast by the restorer.

The "teeth" on the brake drums are cooling fins to help dissapate heat.

After another night in Adelaide were Karen and I caught up with friends we set off for Mt Gambier via a town called Keith, the Hollicks winery in the Coonawarra for lunch then into Mt Gambier after dark for a beer.

The white car in the last pic is stunning, just perfect.

The next morning in Mt Gambier, the local press turned up to see what was going on:)

Has this happened anywhere else along the way?
If 5 minis lined up and cruised down our main street it would cause a stir and a scramble to fill the the local rag with pics. Ok, a little exagerated, make it 10 minis:eek:, but I know the m100 motorcade is getting plenty of onlookers and I would have imagined that any non metro place you lot park for a few hours or overnight must eventually get back to local news outlets and a request for a story. Well that'd be the case here, I'd make sure of it:D
