Most Mercedes delivered to Japan were LHD. it's a status thing over there.
It is definitely not a 1980 model. Most likely 1984/1985.
It appears to have had the Qld DOT plate fitted only in the last few days.
Looks like the seller is the bloke that imported it. I wonder how he convinced the authorities it was a 1980 model?
It IS definitely genuine AMG. The seats, the speedo, the wheels, the body-kit and the colour codeing where the chrome would be is all correct. Would cost more to fake all that than buy a real one.
Don't get me wrong, I still think it is a hell of a buy.
I also believe that the reason it says delivered to Germany THEN went to Japan is that all non North American AMG's of that era would show the "delivered to" dealer on the datacard as being the one near the AMG factory.
It is more likely to have then been delivered to Japan fresh from the AMG factory. Again, a status thing in Japan means it is more likely to have been imported new to Japan rather than used.
Michel, as I meantioned on the phone, look under the capthat holds the base of the jack in place, the data-card/build-sheet should be there.
