Guys I have a set of these 4 x bundt style hubcaps that fit onto the standard 14" steel wheels suitable for any 70's Benz.

Dear Des,

Are they steel or plastic ?

plastic, they are like hubcaps on newer style cars, just push on.

Stand back 10 meters from the car and you would think they are the real thing though.

I lost one of these and paid $40 from MB spares for just one.

I once tried to have a set of black plastic number plate frames chromed as I couldn't find the old style metal chrome units, had been told they were illegal because of the way they reflect light back at a speed camera...anyway, was quoted $120 just to chrome two number plate frames, plastic can be chromed but the chroming people told me it is some special electro process ( I don't know the terminology)

I don't mind sitting them aside for you or?

Just cleaning my shed out and getting rid of the stuff I don't need

Kind regards
Des

Mate, if someone offers you money, please feel free to sell them.
I'd like to see if I can get them chromed first...

So I can't make you a firm offer.

Must rush.. :(

They're boarding

Question: what do you call the hubcaps that are the same colour as the car, and have the big Merc logo on them? I like them.....

What are they worth?

My car came with a brand new, never used set of after-market immitation ones - same as the real ones, and colour coded, but no logo.

Just called the standard colour coded hubcaps, don't think there is a special name for them.

brand new they are about $500 each!

..and they come unpainted.

you can pick them up second hand on ebay, at wreckers for about $50-100 a set, but it is very hard to find ones that are not chipped, scratched and generally in average condition.

Hi Lukas, what size rims do you have on your car. and would it be possible for you to post a picture of your hubcap ? I could be wrong, but it looked as though you had ordinary steel rims on your car. Regards Styria

Hi Styria,

Hubcaps seem to be the right size for the wheels, but haven't tried fitting them.

Haven't heard from Michel yet ? He's been back for a few days now. Personally Des, I would not know what to do with them. I can tell you one thing though - they are very rare and what you paid to MB Spares was really peanuts. In fact, I would go so far as to say that one ought to pay more for one of those hubcaps than for an original alloy Bundt unit - unless, it is, of course, the 15" variety as illustrated in the accompanying photograph showing both 14" and 15" sizes.

.......and as fitted to a very pristine Milan Brown 6.9 that we put our polish on - Interior, Paint and all.

..and the finished and shiny 15" variety...
