Our C 250 CGI is very twitchy in the wet using more than light/ medium throttle taking off. The Traction Control Light goes berserk. The cure I remember was from the 1950/55 Morris Oxfords in my Apprentice Days.... a bag of Sand in the Boot. Two 20 Kilos Bags of Gravel did the trick.

How old are your tyres?
once they get older than 5 years, wet weather road holding is severely compromised.

My thoughts exactly.
It has to be the tyres.

Tires are pliable, and good, and less than 6 years old..... I had the same issue, from new, with a new 107 380 S L I bought in 1981. Back then Mercedes were fitting Continentals which were hard Rubber for mileage on the Autobahns, if my memory:) is correct. The currant Turbos have been tamed and are not light switches as where the early Saab's.. Alfa's

It's been very dry for a long time, the lightest rain brings all the oil to the surface so breaking traction is easy. Just ask the open diff commodore drivers and P platers in 86's and BRZ's

Hi Sean, what brand are your tyres ? Six years old....they are getting on in age. If my 6.9 is any criteria, it is light in the back end when looking for traction on greasy or moist surfaces - and it is not only excess power, although of course it is available. I really think that some of the Mercedes models can be found out in the wet.

I can cast my experience back to the P6 Rovers I have owned. They are fitted with a De Dion rear suspension set-up that really is able to put power to the ground....even on loose or slippery surfaces. De Dion set-ups were used by Racing Cars in the fifties and sixties. Regards. Styria

Why cure it? Just enjoy your inside devil...
I have it on good authority that this is a photo of Sean's performance:
