Again, this is a topic that's been raised frequently on the M100 site. What is not always known, or at least can be confusing, is the type of water pump housing (between pump and engine block) that is fitted to early and late 6.9s.
All later models have the 'standard' housing with the square based water pump. However, early 6.9s had a replica or, really, the same water pump as 6.3s, with a housing that, to all intents and purposes, appeared to be the same as the 6.3 units - you know, I am talking about the shape etc. Well, that is not so. The early 6.9 unit, whilst looking identical, is in fact just a tad bigger - bigger enough to prevent an interchange between the two units.
I believe that MB recommend removal of housing and water pump as one unit. and exchange items are supplied on that basis. Does anyone know the cost of the exchange deal and also, if someone had a 6.3 style housing, would the Company be able to supply exchange units ? I'd also be interested in the straight out cost of a housing itself. Regards Styria
