That's right,
a lot of old Mercs, much as we may love 'em, are not worth much more than a thousand dollars, but can get a lot more for parts.
I have been parting out a 1980 W123 280E over the past year, and apart from using the air-con compressor and the self=levelling rear suspension for my Crayford W116 wagon, I have sold on enough small parts, all between $20
and $100 to make it worth more.
It drove great, cold air, good tyres, etc but the paint was shot.
I am tempted by a couple of cheap ones around here, a rust free W116 and a smoky W126, both for about a grand, and if I had the space I would be in business.
